Consul General visits Foshan University: Focusing on agricultural cooperation to boost the development of Vanuatu

On July 4, 2025, a delegation from the Consulate General of the Republic of Vanuatu in Guangzhou visited the Xianxi Campus of Foshan University, conducting a significant exchange and visit activity. Vanuatu maintains friendly and cooperative relations with the Foshan region, and both parties are continuously exploring opportunities for cooperation. The visit focused on agricultural exchanges, aiming to inject new impetus into the agricultural development of the Republic of Vanuatu through in-depth cooperation with Foshan University, and to assist in construction and improve people's lives.

The participants of this event include five people: Jacques HIMFORD, the Consul General of our consulate; Su Huiyi, the Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Municipal Party Committee; Luo Yongsheng, the Deputy Director of the International Exchange Department; Zhu Fanxi, the Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of Foshan University; Liu Qingyou, the Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture; and Chen Jidang, the Director of the Agricultural Internship Base.

The delegation of Vanuatu Consul General in Guangzhou received a warm welcome from Foshan University at the south gate of Xianxi. Accompanied by relevant leaders of Foshan University, the visiting delegation visited the campus and gained a more intuitive understanding of this institution.

Subsequently, the delegation held an in-depth discussion with the leaders and relevant officials of Foshan University. Agricultural experts from Foshan University provided a detailed introduction to the school's achievements in agricultural research, talent cultivation, and the construction of internship bases, and shared their experiences in agricultural technology innovation, agricultural product processing, and sales. Mr. Jacques HIMFORD, the Consul General, expressed his high appreciation for Foshan University's achievements in the agricultural field and highlighted Vanuatu's urgent needs in agricultural development.

Among them, both parties conducted in-depth discussions focusing on the following aspects:

I. Technology introduction. The research team from Foshan University introduced its research achievements in modern agricultural technology. Vanuatu expressed its desire to introduce these technologies to improve agricultural production efficiency and the quality of agricultural products.

Second, livestock breeding. Experts in animal husbandry from Foshan University shared their advanced management experience in chicken, duck, and pig breeding. Vanuatu believes that these experiences are of great significance for improving the level of livestock breeding in the country. At the same time, both parties discussed the sustainable development of livestock breeding, and experts from Foshan University put forward a series of feasible suggestions.

Third, crop cultivation. The agricultural experts from Foshan University introduced advanced technologies and practical experiences in sweet corn cultivation. Vanuatu hopes to learn from these technologies and experiences to improve the yield and quality of sweet corn, and increase farmers' income.

IV. Talent Cultivation and Technology Dissemination. Both parties will focus on discussing talent cultivation, including sending outstanding technical personnel and teams from Foshan University to Vanuatu to disseminate technology, as well as providing training opportunities for relevant professionals in Vanuatu, in order to enhance the technical skills of agricultural practitioners in Vanuatu, cultivate professional talents, and promote sustainable agricultural development.

This visit and exchange activity marks an important step in the joint efforts of both parties to promote the agricultural development of Vanuatu, injecting new vitality and hope into the agricultural development of Vanuatu. We believe that with the joint efforts of both parties, we can achieve common progress in various aspects, achieve fruitful results, realize mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and bring more benefits to the people of both countries.
